RESTYLANE

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Restylane?

Restylane is an FDA-approved dermal filler that treats and corrects facial wrinkles and folds, as well as augmenting (plumping) lips. Restylane is a made of a biodegradable, non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA). Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in all living organisms and provides volume and fullness to the skin. Restylane is a hyaluronic acid gel that is produced biotechnologically by natural fermentation in a sterile laboratory environment. Because of this, Restylane is a very safe and hygienic option that does not require any allergy or skin test prior to injection.

How does Restylane work?

Restylane is an injectable gel that uses a dual mechanism of action to treat moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. Restylane works by assimilating into dermal tissue, which then attracts and binds to water molecules to create and perpetuate volume. Restylane is then gradually absorbed within the body and disappears naturally.

Is Restylane safe?

  • There have been over 30 million treatments performed with Restylane.

  • Over 3000 patients were followed in clinical trials of Restylane.

  • Over 150 scientific publications and 40 randomized controlled trials have been performed on the safety of Restylane.

  • There is low risk of adverse events post treatment with 350 reports per 1 million treatments.

  • In clinical studies, the most commonly reported immediate reactions observed in patient diaries were swelling, redness, pain, bruising, tenderness, and itching at the injection side.  These have been recorded as mild in severity and resolved in less than 7 days.

When will I see the results of Restylane?

You will see results immediately! We do recommend a touch up treatment approximately two weeks after the initial treatment to optimize the results.

How long does the results of Restylane last?

The results will vary depending on the individual. Results can be seen immediately following Restylane treatment and for up to six months. Some patients may achieve results that last longer than six months, depending upon injection site. To maximize results, we recommend touch up treatments for maintaining the results achieved in the initial treatment. Touch up treatments will most likely require lower volumes of Restylane, depending on the treatment area and the time frame between the treatments. It has been shown in a clinical study that with just two maintenance treatments Restylane is proven to last up to three years.

What should I know before my Restylane appointment?

You may experience bleeding or bruising at the place of injection If you are taking aspirin, or any other medication that affects bleeding.

We recommend avoiding make-up application to the skin immediately after treatment.

  • Light cover up may be used to conceal any remaining redness after approximately 24 hours.

  • A yellow-toned concealer may be used to hide signs of bruising.

  • In order to cover up any redness you can use a concealer with a slight green/yellow tone.
